Basics Class

Learn basic skills that you need to have a safe and successful backpacking trip. Taught in an in-person, group setting.

These are a fun, low pressure time to learn skills, ask questions, learn about gear before you go and buy it, and to meet new folks with similar interests.

Women’s Beginning Backpacking

The purpose of this course is to focus on:

  • Confidence

  • Trail safety

  • Skill building

  • Peer group connection

Set yourself up for success by learning necessary skills before heading out. Classroom style, in-person class. We will cover topics such as:

  • Trip planning basics

  • Gear choices

  • Navigation plans

  • Water filtration safety

  • Nutrition

  • Backcountry hygiene

  • First aid

Graduate Overnight Trip

After completing the classroom hours you may schedule to join in an overnight backpacking trip with me and a group of other graduates to try out your new skills and gear.

Think of it as a safety net trip. Shake off the fears and try your trail legs in a low pressure environment.

These trips are currently held in the Dayton, OH area. We will meet at a local park and backpack 3-5 miles to a camping area. We will spend the night there and try out your new gear and skills and then hike back out in the morning.
